Bridges

Sensitive instrumentation is required to measure the small changes in resistance that are produced by strain gauges.

Typically a Wheatstone bridge circuit is used because it can accurately and dynamically measure resistances from very small levels (1 Ohm) to very large levels (1 M-Ohm).

Pictured at right is a general Wheatstone Bridge of the type we will be discussing.
