Effective End Mass
Modelling System Parameters
The effective end mass of the beam is the sum of the mass of the end block components, plus the instrument mass, plus the fraction of each beam that is located at the end block. This effective mass is given by:
(1)
- where:
- M is the effective end mass,
- Mblock is the end block mass,
- Mi is the instrument mass, and
- Mbeam is the fraction of the beam mass that contributes to the effective end mass.
It can be shown that the coefficient
is approximately:
(2)
It can also be shown that the addition of mass to the beam will reduce the natural frequency.
