New Habits

Well, I started of with the goal of starting a new habit every month beginning in September.

A quick update on what I’ve done so far:

  • September 2009, Eat Fresh Fruit: I’m doing pretty well on this, with maybe an 80% compliance rate. Outcome: Successful
  • October 2009, Exercise More: Also, I’m doing pretty well at this. I’ve been averaging riding my exercise bike about 100 miles a month or 25-30 or so miles a week. I’d like to do much better at this. Really, I’d like to do 100 miles a week, but I’ll settle for 50 miles a week. Outcome: Successful, but more needed.

And I meant to mention these new habits:

  • November 2009, Keep my email inbox and drafts in check. My goal was less than 10 messages waiting action in my inbox, and less than 10 drafts of email I want to send out at the end of every month. Ouctome: So far so good.
  • December 2009, Keep my receipt and bill filing in check. My goal is to have everything filed by the end of the month. After spending an entire afternoon filing bills and paperwork, I figured I should get back to being organized. Ouctome: So far so good.

And for the new year?

  • January 2010, Read more–personally and professionally. I’m going to try and read for pleasure a little bit every day. And I’m going to try and read one professional paper or journal article once a week. I have a backlog of stuff to read, I need to get back into the habit of working through the stacks!
