Strain and Displacement

It can be shown that the strain is related to the tip displacement:

Thus if the strain gauges are located at a distance x=a, the strain is related to the tip displacement by:

Therefore, for a given strain, the tip displacement is given by:

In the lab, the displacement inferred from the strain should be compared to the displacement measured by the LVDT to verify the accuracy of this measurement.
