  • Rachel Botsman: The currency of the new economy is trust: Great Ted talk (ok that’s kinda assumed, it’s a Ted talk).

    Rachel Botsman argues:

    • Shouldn’t we own our own reputation data? And shouldn’t reputation data should travel between systems (e.g. if you are rated as a good seller on Ebay should that follow you if you start selling at Amazon)
    • Reputation is local and contextual.
    • Reputation will be the currency of the 21st century.
    • She argues for trustworthiness as opposed to influence (i.e., tweets or likes)

I tend to stay away from providing more data than I need to online (e.g., not posting reviews to Amazon) until it’s clear what the value is for me, or when I decide I need to have an influence via that data sharing. Sharing of reputation and the importance that might come from it, is one of those things that would get me to participate more. Because there would be clear value to me. Something to think about.

  • NPD: Android users chew an average 870MB of cellular data per month, youngest gobble the most: I’ll be interested to see what my usage is on my iPhone 5 now that I have LTE. (I’ve written before about my iPhone data usage.)
