Eagle Has Landed

At 4:18pm EDT on July 20, 2009 “live” by “radio”.

Listening to the replay of the Apollo 11 landing today was as if I was listening to a radio broadcast from 1969. Kinda cool.

This condensed account is about all that present day Americans will absorb. There were 3 major TV networks with local stations; people actually did listen to the radio for news and live events; people bought newspapers to see the photos if they missed televised reports. This endeavor was a galvanizing source of American pride. There was a whole nation of workers that knew that they, personally, contributed in their small way. “We’re part of history.”

That generation who remembered viewing Apollo’s success and appreciated the tireless hours of behind the scene work do remember the who, what, where, and when. I hope your readers, of the younger generation, can gain appreciation for the aeronautical pioneering days that advanced all of us into the 21st century.
