Street signs that just lie

I went to see a movie yesterday. As I’m relatively new to the area I haven’t been to this particular movie theater before. It’s upon a hill above the roads around it. I have been by the theater, but didn’t know exactly how to get to it’s location. From one intersection I could see the theater and *maybe* I could turn left and access the theater’s parking lot. But I also couldn’t see over the rise in the road to tell if there might be another driveway to the theater. (Of course a simple sign at the previous intersection directing traffic to turn in there might have been useful.) Ok, no problem, worst case I’ve been on the street further down and I can see from my GPS that the streets *should* connect. I keep driving and nope there’s not another driveway. Ok, on to plan B, I drive further down and turn left trying to follow the streets around. I turn onto the parallel street and see a sign that says:

No Theater Access – Hotel and Restaurant Access Only

Or something like that. Ok, no worries, I turn around and go back to the first street and get to the theater.

Now here’s the rub. I leave the theater and the driveway shows that I’m not supposed to turn left onto the street I used to access the theater. Nobody’s around so I *could* safely turn left. Ok no worries, I’ll follow the signage instructions. So I’m on the street I was on before that said there was *no* theater access. Wait a second there’s two way traffic, I clearly just drove *from* the theater, and I could clearly drive *to* the theater. The sign just plain lied!

So, if a sign says no access, I assume that the local municipality or the businesses have structured the entrances/roads such that I can’t physically access the business. Nope, not here. They just didn’t *want* me to go that way. It makes me wonder if the hotels and restaurants got together and put that sign up just because *they* didn’t want theater traffic going by them. Sheesh. Now I know.

Maybe I’ll have to go back and take photos or video just to prove my point.

(As an aside, I’ve already been stymied by parking lots that don’t connect to one another nor to all the streets that *should* be able to access them.)
