First Ride of the Season

Well, the only reason I’m writing this is that a buddy in Utah posted about his first ride of the season. :)

So, I didn’t do a whole lot of riding last season (or the season before come to think of it), and I don’t even have a good snake story. Every Spring, when I really should be starting riding, things tend to get crazy. I usually am writing one major proposal, have a week long trip, or have to work around the weather (it snowed earlier this week in Logan). So while all of that is true this year too, the weather was really nice on Friday so I went out for a ride!

I wanted to test out my bike, I got it tuned up a couple weeks ago and also had a fitting. Hopefully I can find a 20+ mile route somewhere to see if the fitting helped reduce the lower back pain, wrist pain and foot pain I sometimes get on long rides.

Before starting my ride, I had an errand to run so I drove around the neighborhood scoping out possible routes. Why is it that I always seem to live on a hill, and around hills? /sigh. Ok, there’s not a whole lot of really flat riding in the couple miles around my apartment. After running the errand, I geared up and hopped up on the bike. I rode a mile or so in circles to check out the bike and then headed out, wait for it, for a whopping additional 6 miles. I wimped out after about 5 miles, I could’ve kept going but there’d be more hill climbing out and back, and I was already out of breath, my heart rate was at 180 and I was starting to hurt. Even with all that, it’s good to get out and ride.
