What is Gizmology?
Gizmology is a phrase used to describe robotic art. It is a blending of art, science, and engineering to animate a collection of circuits, mechanical levels, hydraulics, pneumatics, and algorithms that seem to come alive. Join your fellow ASME members and explore the creative side of your brain as we delve into the world of robotic art.

About the Speaker:
Frank Garvey is painter, sculptor, roboticist, composer, and dramatist and is the founder and director of the world's first junkyard cabaret and robot performance ensemble, OmniCircus.

OmniCircus is an experimental, surreal-psychedelic musical-cabaret group, founded in 1988. Their shows integrate 'live' avant-fusion music and performance with sophisticated mechanical actors and midi-controlled, computer-animated, virtual-reality (VRpit) performers. The OmniCircus performance space has a permanent installation of art, music, animation and robotics. The OmniCircus in San Francisco's South of Market (SoMa) district.

Mr. Garvey also composes, records and performs with OmniCircus' junkyard fusion musical ensemble, DeusMachina. This band has a catalog of recordings on the Gate 6 label and the American Composer's Forum innova label. The innova recording of DeusMachina's music for 'House of the Deafman' has won rave reviews. His work has been featured on salon.com, Sonoloco and Wired.

About the Restaurant:
John's Grill historic restaurant is one of the city's oldest and most famous establishments. It is a favorite with local and national celebrities who enjoy the great steaks, fresh seafood, salads and pastas with excellent services at honest prices. John's Grill was a setting in author Dashiell Hammett's The Maltese Falcon. The restaurant's interior is a masterpiece of original period furnishings, remaining a tribute to old San Francisco, as well as providing a virtual museum of authentic memorabilia. The dark oak paneled walls are covered with photos of well-known patrons and San Francisco of the past. John's Grill was chosen as one of the 10 best by Esquire and featured in Gourmet.
