ABOUT THE TOPIC:
TThe presentation will review the requirements for structural fireproofing in high rise buildings, describing how they were developed and their performance. The review will include a discussion of the relationship between the fire loading and the fire severity as well as a review of the fire history in high rise buildings in the last 35 years. There will be some discussion of the WTC event and the questions it raises.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER:
Gary Piermattei is both a mechanical engineer and a fire protection engineer who works for Rolf Jensen & Associates, Inc., a leading fire protection engineering firm. He has served on NFPA 72, National Fire Alarm Code, and is now serving on NFPA 15 and 16, "Water Spray Fixed Systems for Fire Protection" and "Installation of Foam-Water Sprinkler and Foam-Water Spray Systems" respectively. He has been involved in the development of fire protection systems for a number of high rise buildings on the West Coast.
