What the Heck is this Stamp for Anyhow?
Issues and Actions of a Mechanical Engineer REALLY Working as a P.E.

With a panel of experienced ME's who have been there, and a high level of audience participation, we'll address questions like:

How do you act differently when the work you perform requires you to be a registered (or licensed) Professional Engineer?

What things do you think about (or what check list do you use) to make sure you've covered al the bases required by the Professional Engineers Act?

What are the implications of working as an independent consultant without being a P.E.? What work can you and can you not legally do?

How is legislation now in the works in the California Senate and Assembly likely to change your status?

Many mechanical engineers now find themselves on their own or working for a consulting firm after 10, 20, 30, or more years working under the industrial exemption. Some of them secured their P.E. registration many years before. Others didn't. Many or most have never used the P.E. stamp they were required to purchase. In some companies, only a designated top manager put a stamp to drawings. In others, none did. Many or most have seen no example and heard little discussion of the day-to-day and less common issues and actions faced by an engineer truly working as a Professional Engineer.

Bring your questions and comments for what promises to be a lively discussion. If you are just now thinking about getting your P.E. or have been uncomfortably "flying blind" under the industrial exemption, this meeting is especially meant for you. If you have been working day to day as a Registered Mechanical Engineer, others will appreciate your "lessons learned". You'll surely learn a few new things as well and hear about issues you may not have contemplated for awhile.
