From ASME San Francisco Section Nov/Dec 1997 Newsletter:

The [SFASME Announcements] Mailing List
Providing 550+ members information at their desktop!

by Brandon Muramatsu

The SFASME Executive Committee has added a new method of keeping in touch with you, our members. We've added a mailing list sfasme-announce@bits.me.berkeley.edu. Through this mailing list we'll send you timely reminders of upcoming events and provide items of general interest in the same way our paper newsletters do. So you now have three methods of finding out about local San Francisco section activities:

Features:

  1. You can automatically subcribe to the mailing list by sending e-mail to:
          majordomo@bits.me.berkeley.edu
    with the following message body:
          subscribe sfasme-announce you@email.address

  2. You can automatically unsubscribe to the mailing list by sending e-mail to:
          majordomo@bits.me.berkeley.edu
    with the following message body:
          unsubscribe sfasme-announce your@email.address

  3. The mailing list program "validates" your subscribes and unsubscribes. Thus only you should be able to add or remove your name from the mailing list. I'm serving as the list maintainer and I see all "questionable" subscribe/unsubscribe requests.

  4. Only the SFASME Executive Committee can post to the mailing list. Thus we're running a "semi-moderated" mailing list and we'll only send out "approved" postings.

  5. If you have any questions, send mail to owner-sfasme-announce@bits.me.berkeley.edu.

  6. We will eventually move this mailing list to sf.asme.org after we've thoroughly tested it out. Stay tuned for the address change.
