February Meeting Recap

The San Francisco Bay Area Engineering Council Engineers' Week Banquet (February 19) was a sold-out success, attended by more than 200 people. Tau Beta Pi presented its annual Eminent Engineer award to Dave Holman of the California Cement Promotion Council. Dr. David Stork, Chief Scientist at the Ricoh Silicon Valley and Consulting Associate Professor of Electrical Engineering at Stanford University gave an enjoyable talk on "The HAL 9000 computer and the vision of 2001: A Space Odyssey," Stanley Kubrick and Arthur C. Clarke's 1968 epic film about space exploration, extraterrestrials, and the evolution of intelligence.
