California Maritime Academy

Hello from the California Maritime Academy! The introductory group from the California Maritime Academy Student Section had the pleasure of touring the C&H factory on February 25th. It was an interesting experience observing how the engineering aspects that we are taught in school have such a direct relation to the applications of sugar refining. Our next group of members is eagerly awaiting their tour of this amazing engineering marvel. The Month of March greets our members with the highly competitive Regional Student Conference being in Reno, Nevada. In April, we still have the tentative tour of the Genentech planned. This bio-pharmaceutical plant has been on the minds of many ASME members for quite some time, especially with the completion of the new plant, which is located in Vacaville, CA; just 30 minutes from our shore-side campus. A tour of Great America on physics day is also tentatively planned in the near future; weather permitting. To provide for the financial aspects of our activities, we are fundraising as much as possible. If you would like to make a donation or would like some information the student section at the California Maritime Academy, feel free to contact me at (707) 451-8163 or by e-mail at contempo@hotmail.com. Sincerely, Gene Ellis, President CMA Section.

U.C. Berkeley

Greetings from U.C. Berkeley! The semester is in full swing now, and the student section is preparing for a busy March. We kicked off this month with our second general meeting, with Prof. George Johnson giving a talk on his baseball theories. Later this month, we'll be going on our first ever officer retreat in sunny San Diego. While in San Diego, we'll be participating in team building and other educational activities.

These events lead up to our biggest event of the year, the U.C. Berkeley/S.F. Section Crab Feed. Gary Chan from IBM will be the keynote speaker for this annual event, which features all-you-can-eat Dungeness crab. The price is $22 with RSVP by March 10 and $25 without. Please RSVP to asme@euler.berkeley.edu. For student members, the price is $9 with RSVP and $11 without. (The price is $2 more for student non-members). We're all looking forward to this great event and hope to see you all there.

If you have any questions or comments for the U.C. Berkeley Student Section, feel free to contact us at asme@euler.berkeley.edu or by calling (510) 642-5549.

San Francisco State University

March already! It seems as though we were just telling ourselves that we had to get prepared for the New Year. Well we are well on our way to having a full monococ hubless tricycle completed. A lot of thanks goes to all the guys who have spent many nights working on this trike. In addition to the bike, a lot of work has gone into getting ready for the RSC in Reno. We have two posters going and a design for the Student Design Competition. Our Engineers Week activities were a big success. Currently we are preparing for our Career Fair on March 18, and for the annual Seven Hills Dinner which we hope to hold in conjunction with SFASME. Martin Quan has put a lot of time into preparing an end of the year Banquet which is coming together nicely. It looks as though we are going to sell out all of our seats! Hope to see you all in Reno!
