Chair's Greeting
by Brandon Muramatsu

Remembering ASME Members

This month we announce the passing of Frank W. von Flue, P.E., Fellow. As the year comes to a close I'd like us all to consider our fellow ASME members who passed away this year. I would like to personally remember Robert F. Steidel, Jr., professor emeritus of mechanical engineering at UC Berkeley. Professor Steidel was my first professor here at Cal. I'll always remember Prof. Steidel's 8 o'clock classes for his comments on "Not to Scale" and for his amazing ability to draw a perfect circle on the blackboard!

The Golden Gate Transportation Authority

Apologies to all who were looking forward to attending November's dinner meeting with representatives from the Golden Gate Transportation Authority. Due to newsletter mailing delays and busy schedules, we mutually agreed with the GGTA to reschedule this meeting. We are tentatively planning a February 11 meeting with location to be announced -- check our February newsletter, website, and voice mail for more information.

Kudos to our Executive Committee

I'd like to congratulate Eve Andersson on last month's newsletter. Eve, you did a wonderful job. Also, congratulations to Roy Morgan on his new job at Stryker Endoscopy. Finally, Don Moseman, former SF section chair, pulled off a major coup at October's Mt. Diablo section meeting -- Don arranged for PG&E's President and CEO to serve as the evening's speaker. Great work Don!

Looking forward to Next Year

I look forward to seeing all of you in the new year and hope our programs continue to provide you value. If you have any questions or comments or would like to volunteer, please contact me at (510) 643-1817 or mura@needs.org.
