Recap of the Joint San Francisco/Mt. Diablo January Meeting
by Brandon Muramatsu

Our speaker for the evening was Dr. A. K. Oppenheim, Professor in the Graduate School at the University of California, Berkeley. Dr. Oppenheim, an ASME member for nearly 50 years and member of the mechanical engineering department at UC Berkeley for 48 years, presented a talk entitled Engine Cardiology. Dr. Oppenheim's thesis is that the internal combustion engine is inherently "sick." He argues that we can use microelectromechanical systems (both sensors and jets/nozzles) to improve the combustion process inside the cylinder thereby producing a "cleaner" reaction. For further information, Dr. Oppenheim can be at (510) 642-0211 or via email at ako@me.berkeley.edu.
