California Maritime Academy

Ahoy from the California Maritime Academy! The ASME student section has been experiencing increased membership and we are very excited about our upcoming events. We are gearing up for a much-anticipated tour of the C&H Factory this month as well as eagerly anticipating the Regional Student Conference in Reno, Nevada next month. We have approximately 4 groups of students competing this year under the direction of Professor McLemore. In the month of April, the student section of ASME has tentatively planned a tour of the Genentech plant located in South San Francisco. Weather and schedule permitting, we plan on learning the engineering concepts behind the themes and attractions at Paramount's Great America on physics day. I am very excited about the activities at hand and we are planning the next year with much diligence. To provide for the financial aspects of our activities, we are fundraising as much as possible. If you would like to make a donation or would like some more information about the student section at the California Maritime Academy, feel free to contact me at (707)-451-8163 or by e-mail at contempo@hotmail.com.

Sincerely,
Gene Ellis

U.C. Berkeley

Greetings from U.C. Berkeley! We just started our spring semester over here on the other side of the bay, and we have many great events coming up. Last month, several of our members went on the Engineers' Joint Council ski trip to Tahoe, which was a lot of fun. This month, we will be having a general meeting and co-hosting a Student-Professional Awareness Conference (S-PAC) with IEEE. We have invited speakers from companies like Hewlett Packard and Lockheed Martin to give talks ranging from engineering life in the defense electronics industry to the transition from campus life to the corporate world.

Next month, we will be hosting our annual Crab Feed. The dinner will be held on Wednesday, March 18th, from 6-9 p.m. in 120 Bechtel Engineering Center. The cost is $22 with RSVP and $25 without (RSVP to asme@euler.berkeley.edu by March 10th) and includes all you can eat crab, salad, bread, and drinks. For student members who RSVP, the cost is $9 (the cost is $11 for non-members, and there is an additional $2 charge for any student who does not RSVP by March 10). We are all looking forward to this event, and hope to see everyone there.

If you have any questions or comments for the U.C. Berkeley student section, or would like to place an advertisement in the Crab Feed program, please feel free to contact us at asme@euler.berkeley.edu or by contacting Edwin Lee at (510) 548-2161.

San Francisco State University

Winter beak is over, but for some of us it wasn't much of a break. The SFSU Human Powered Vehicle team was hard at work preparing the plug for our monococ unibody frame. Special thanks is due to Martin Quan, Eddie Cruz, Emanuel , and Eric Shadd for spending their break working on the bike. ASME as a whole ended the semester with a blast. Wayne Pedranti of United Airlines provided us with an excellent tour of the airplane maintenance facility in December. Also, in December ASME and SAMPE through a joint end of the semester banquet; over 120 students attended. Currently we are hard at work preparing some special events for e-week, and planning a career fair to be held late in March. We also have many students preparing for RSC to be held in Reno. Hope to see many of you there. That's all for now!
