Multimedia Case Studies of Engineering Design

Mechanical Engineering 39C and 139

ME39C

Mechanical Engineering 39C Multimedia Case Studies of Engineering Design

Students will work in teams, guided by a ME139 mentor, to design and develop their own multimedia case study. A strong theme of this course is for students to learn how to design and communicate using multimedia and technology. Students will review existing multimedia cases in engineering design and exchange ideas in teams guided by a mentor from ME139. Another theme in the course will be to follow the history of technology and evolution of design practices through case studies. Through the development of the case and interactions with team members and mentors, students will be exposed to many aspects of the design process and concepts in engineering design, including: brainstorming, problem definition, problem specification, implementation, testing, and redesign. Students will use leading edge multimedia software tools for authoring, photo manipulation, and digital video to design their case study. The World Wide Web and HTML authoring will be the primary medium for communication and presentation.

Mechanical Engineering 139
Management of Engineering Multimedia Case Study Development

Students serve as mentors and project leaders to teams creating case studies in ME 39C: Multimedia Case Studies of Engineering Design. Students will get an introduction to project management in engineering projects including definition of scope and scheduling. Through their mentoring, students will gain experience in teaching, building, motivating and evaluating project teams.
