Homepage - Grading Criteria

Below are the grading criteria used in Homepage Assignment.

On a nine(ten) point scale. The critera were applied to both your Home Page (index.html) as well as your Essay Page (essays.html). You are also able to increase your score on your essays by addressing the problems we noted on the hard copy of your essay.
  • 1 point - Are the pages generally legible and readable? This was a very general user interface criteria. Think about the User Interface assignment we went through in Week 8, can others view the information on your web pages?
  • 1 point - General grammar and spelling (mainly on your Home Page (index.html), your essays grammar and spelling was already counted in the Essay Assignment grading.)
  • 1 point - Did you change the picture from the Home Page Template?
  • 1 point - Did you update the contact info? Did you replace the information from the template with your name, address, phone number, and email?:

    If you didn't want to put your address did you make sure things looks right? So if you didn't want to leave a street address you should have done something like the contact info below. There should be a space (either a <BR> or a <P>) between your Department and the text University of California at Berkeley:

  • 1 point - Did you add links to sites that you like?
  • 1 point - Did you put your essay on-line?
  • 1 point - Did you update the page title <TITLE>? You got a 1/2 point each for the index.html and the essay.html pages. At the top of each of your HTML files is code that controls the page title. For this page, this HTML code is:
    <TITLE>ME39C S'97 : Homepage - Grading Criteria</TITLE>
    You will note that this text "Homepage - Grading Criteria" appears in the window title after "Netscape:".

    For your index.html file, the <TITLE> shound be changed from:
    <TITLE>ME39C Student Home Page Template : Spring 1997</TITLE>

    For your essys.html file, the <TITLE> shound be changed from:
    <TITLE>ME39C Student Home Page : Essay Template</TITLE>
  • 1 point - Did you change the "Last Updated" date and the "Send Comments to:" at the bottom of each page? You got a 1/2 point each for the index.html and the essay.html pages.

    For your index.html and essays.html files, you should change from:
    <FONT SIZE=2>Last updated: 2/8/97<BR>
    Send Comments to: Brandon Muramatsu, <A HREF="mailto:mura@needs.org">mura@needs.org</A><BR>
    and should read:
    <FONT SIZE=2>Last updated: 3/13/97<BR> Send Comments to: Your Name, <A HREF="mailto:you@your.email.address">you@your.email.address</A><BR>
  • 1 point - Did you update your essay according to the comments you received? You received a point if you already had a 5/5 on your essay.
  • Extra point - Did your home page look especially good?
