Web Video-Conferencing – Another Contender

I’ve had a great conversation with someone based on my original posts about Web Video-Conferencing in a Medium Conference Room (Parts 1, 2, Addendum).

Based on this conversation and the fact that my colleague Jim is interested in testing out the same camera for a class here, I’ll be posting a test of the Logitech BCC950 Conference Cam in the next week or two.

I received this note:

I am trying to come up with a video-based solution that will allow me to do half-day sessions and do them remotely. I have tried Adobe Connect, but even with a Logitech webcam pointed out into the room, I could not see the people at the end of the conference table, and since our trainings are highly interactive, that is a problem. I know that using rooms that have videoconferencing would be the best solution, but sometimes those rooms are booked, or not big enough, which leads me back to finding a camera that I send to the client to put on a tripod and plug into a laptop. It needs a field of vision that is wide enough to see the people on both sides of the room, and at the end of a long conference table.

And in a followup email she said…

The problem is that on the client’s end, it is apparently hard for them to book the videoconferencing rooms. Therefore, I also wanted to find a solution that would let me give a training with people in a conference room that’s not set up for videoconferencing on their end.

But then, we run into the problem of how to do group exercises and be able to see/hear everyone because they would all be using one computer…or if they are using multiple computers, as you point out, then they would have to wear headsets, but then, if I put them in small groups for exercises, they couldn’t hear each other talking. Aaaaargh…!

I did find a Logitech camera that might solve the problem, and wanted to share it with you. First, here is the conference camera with a short demo video of it: http://www.logitech.com/en-us/product/Conferencecam?crid=1252

Here are some reviews of it:
