muraPOI

It’s been nearly six months since my last muraPOI, I thought I should post one again. Hopefully I’ll be getting back to a regular schedule again.

  • The iPhone and Disruption: Five Years In. The iPhone, the best computer you have is the one in your pocket. I’ve heard the saying that the “best camera you have, is the one you have with you.” John Gruber takes this to a whole other level when describing the impact of the iPhone after 5 years. I agree.

“The iPhone is not and never was a phone. It is a pocket-sized computer that obviates the phone.”

  • You still need your own website: I’ve believed this for awhile now, and why when I thought about updating things in 2008-2009 I decided to stick with hosting my own website. The article quotes Brett Slatkin:

“The new thought here is: publish from your own site, but use all these great social networks like Twitter and Tumblr and Facebook to connect with your audience, to boost engagement, and to get as much reach as you possibly can.”

  • Why restrict the length of a password?: This. From what I’ve read, a longer password, even padded with the same character is stronger than an 8 character password of any just about any complexity (and probably easier to remember without writing it down, or using a password keychain/safe).
  • Tynan’s Rules for Living: A pretty good list, I try to do just about all of these, I could do better on a couple of them though…
