  • Making the Review of Assigned Reading Meaningful: I find this article especially interesting considering (a) the class I co-taught last year asked students to read articles to prepare for discussion and (b) we’re looking at shifting activities (“flipped classroom”) models in my day job. I like the “Top Ten”, “Secondary Sources” and “Journaling” suggestions.

  • Trying Something New in Your Classroom For 30 Days: A great suggestion! Do one or two small things, and then continue. In particular I like author Heather Wolper-Gawron’s goals of “Do my students’ assignments” and “Model some skill everyday.”

  • “Why Are We Doing This?” Establishing Relevance to Enhance Student Learning: A number of articles I’ve read in the last year have been about the importance of relevance to millenials. If I think about me, that definitely makes sense. I want to know why I’m doing something–of course I could just be getting more curmudgeonly as I get older.
