  • The OER Turn: Amber Thomas postulates a turn is occurring in the UK, and the discussion of OER is shifting. While I understand probably why JISC started funding “OER”, I think focus on the phrase “OER” and “Open Educational Resources” has been misguided from the get go. It’s the innovation du jour. I keep asking the question, is there something unique about “OER” as compared to online learning, distance education, learning objects and so on? (I think there is, but it’s not what the discussion of OER tends to focus on.)

  • Photoshop Etiquitte Manifesto for Web Designers: I sometimes wish I followed more of these guidelines, even for myself. I end up with “Final-v4” and the like. For stuff I don’t send out it’s easy enough for me to determine based on version number and date, but it’s still less precise that it should be.

  • Responsive Web Design: Mostly a way of discussing media query as a way of having a responsive web design. I’m at odds with this because I love great, highly-designed web sites, but I also want sites I can bring up quickly and look reasonably good with a minimum of fuss. And more importantly sites that are *very* easy to maintain. So, I need/want themes and plugins that do all this stuff for me. :)

Best commandment, “give everyone an experience” (instead of cash bonuses, people remember experiences). Watch the video, it’s about 35 minutes long.
