A university network brought to its knees when someone inadvertently plugged two network cables into the wrong hub. An employee injured after an ill-timed entry into a data center. Overheated systems shut down after a worker changes a data center thermostat setting from Fahrenheit to Celsius.

…reminds me of the time we were baby-sitting our servers overnight because someone decided to turn off the cold-water supply to the air conditioner. Mind you, we had specifically installed the system through facilities, and had made a clear point of asking them to be notified of planned or unplanned downtime. The only reason our servers didn’t melt down, I happened to be in the office late and stopped by the server room.

The other funny thing about this story, it came out on Thursday the 12th. It really shoulda been a Friday the 13th feature.
