Where shall we go today? Or, Brandon’s experiences with his GPS

For those of you that have a GPS in your car you’ll understand this post. So, where is my GPS going to take me today?

I bought my GPS to help drive across the country and also navigate Boston. Boston–everything I’ve always heard is don’t drive in Boston, never, ever. Hrm. I live here now, I *have* to drive in Boston.

Don’t get me wrong, the GPS is great but…in the almost two months I’ve had it I can make the following observations:

  • GPS-woman (I don’t have a name for her) can be very insistent when I make a wrong turn. Even if *I* decide I’m going somewhere else.
  • GPS-woman has taken me off the highway/freeway twice, only to direct me to take the on-ramp directly ahead. Hrm, ok. That was fun. It happened once in Pennsylvania and once yesterday in Burlington, MA.
  • GPS-woman has a strange idea of what’s the fastest way to my destination. Yesterday I went to the Burlington, MA mall. I got there on I-95. The on-ramp for I-95 was right there as GPS-woman directed me to take city streets. Now, why would it be faster to take the highway there, but not back? Uh, ok. The drive was pretty at least… (If I had a better sense of where I was, the trip on the back roads would have been more useful.)

I sure hope GPS-woman isn’t connected to the internet and doesn’t read this post. Who knows where she might take me tomorrow.
