What station to use for iTrip in Boston?

,

I’m constantly futzing about to find a station on which to set my iTrip so I can listen to podcasts in my car. For some reason, the channels I usually use become congested in the Summer-time. I get bleed over on 88.3 FM and 88.5 FM, and then there’s the random French-ish broadcasts I pick up periodically (going over the hill on Concord Ave. and near the Hyatt in Cambridge where the cabbies are).

Then I remembered, International mode.

If you have a Griffin iTrip, which allows an iPhone/iPod/iPad to play audio through a car’s stereo, you can enable International mode to allow the iTrip to broadcast on additional channels outside the normal range in the U.S. (For example, the spectrum below 88 FM is unlicensed by the FCC.)

Activating International Mode on Griffin iTrip

Use the Menu button to go to the Preference screen and select reset. Change the locale until you get to EU (or International) to open up channels such as 87.9 FM. In theory there shouldn’t be anyone in the U.S. broadcasting on those channels, but there are lots of pirate radio stations (including the one broadcasting on 87.7 FM in the Boston Area).
